Osiris Reborn Hacking — How the Beta Hacking Minigame Works
Updated September 23, 2026 · Facts cross-checked against the sources listed below
Who can hack
Hacking is a skill check that needs Cyber Sabotage 1 or higher. Owlcat’s official Beta guide gives the two Hacker presets 2 Cyber Sabotage and the two Officer presets none. In practice only the Hacker presets can hack in the Beta. Playthroughs confirm it: an Officer at the terminal can’t claim admin access. Your origin doesn’t matter; see character creation.
| Preset | Cyber Sabotage | Can hack? |
|---|---|---|
| Male Earther Hacker | 2 | Yes |
| Female Belter Hacker | 2 | Yes |
| Male Earther Officer | 0 | No |
| Female Belter Officer | 0 | No |
Where to hack
The IT center terminal on Pinkwater 4, the room at the end of the corridor on your left from the “Code blue” locked door. It’s the only hackable terminal documented in the Beta. The same terminal lets any character turn off the lockdown, and the same room has the datapad with the armory code. Choose “Admin access” to start the hack.
How the minigame works
Owlcat’s design director explained it on the official Beta dev stream: “scroll through the code sequences. You can see the entering pin on the left… Up and down… you need to match three pins on the left with pins on current code sequence. And then you proceed.”
- A fixed set of pins sits on the left.
- Scroll the current code column up or down until its three pins line up with that set.
- That locks in, and you move to the next column. Later stages have more codes.
- The final column is matched against the codes on the right.
- It’s timed. Be quick rather than careful.
If time runs out or you misclick, the hack shows “Blocked” and you can try again. One player thinks you get two chances ⚠ one player; the attempt limit isn’t confirmed. The exact timer length and the controller inputs haven’t been documented.
The reward: Tactical Overdrive
A successful hack opens the terminal’s files: lore notes, including a “note to all rookies” and a solar-flare warning. The useful part is a download of the Tactical Overdrive auxiliary subsystem blueprint. You craft it at the workbench. One player reads its stats as −45% maximum ammo, +25% ability damage ⚠ one video; a second confirms the trade of ammo for ability damage. That suits the gadget-heavy Hacker build.
Cyber Sabotage skills
Fextralife lists two skills in the Cyber Sabotage tree ⚠ Fextralife only:
- Skimmer: +100 credits per skill level on a successful hack.
- Curious Hacker: +50 XP for each newly unlocked terminal. Needs Cyber Sabotage 3.
No Beta video shows the actual payout.
Hacking in combat is different
The Hacker preset also “hacks” in fights, but that’s gadgets, not the terminal minigame. It starts with the Pandemic Algorithm, which shocks up to three enemies. In the full game, Owlcat renames the Hacker to cyber warfare specialist and the Officer to firearms specialist. Aleesha Young is the crew’s electronic warfare specialist; see companions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you hack in Osiris Reborn?
Use a character with Cyber Sabotage 1 or more, go to the IT center terminal on Pinkwater 4 and choose Admin access. In the minigame, scroll each code column until three pins match the set on the left, then continue to the next stage before time runs out.
Why can’t I hack the terminal?
You are playing an Officer preset. Officers start with no Cyber Sabotage, and hacking needs at least 1. The Hacker presets start with 2.
What do you get for hacking?
Access to the terminal’s files and a download of the Tactical Overdrive subsystem blueprint, which you craft at the workbench. It trades maximum ammo for ability damage.
What happens if you fail the hack?
The attempt is blocked when you run out of time or misclick, and you can try again. Whether there is a limit on attempts isn’t confirmed.
Do I need to hack to open the Code blue door?
No. Turning off the lockdown at the same terminal works for every character. Hacking is a separate, optional step.
