Osiris Reborn Beta — How to Get In, Cost & How Long It Is
Updated September 23, 2026 · Facts cross-checked against the sources listed below
Who can play
Only Founders who own the Miller’s Pack or the Collector’s Edition. The Standard ($49.99) and Deluxe ($59.99) packs don’t include it. The cheapest way in is the Miller’s Pack at $79.99, which also includes the full game at release. Compare everything on the editions page.
How to get and redeem your Beta key
- Buy the Miller’s Pack or Collector’s Edition on osirisreborn.owlcat.games and log in.
- Go to your profile, open the Digital Download tab and click Choose the Platform.
- Pick Steam, Xbox or PlayStation 5. For PlayStation you also pick your region. Owlcat warns: once you get the key, you can’t change the platform.
- Copy the key from the Digital Download tab and redeem it:
| Platform | Where to redeem |
|---|---|
| Steam | Steam client → Games → Activate a Product on Steam. It appears in your library as “The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Playtest”. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Store → View button → Redeem → enter the 25-character code. Or use xbox.com/redeem. |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store → Triangle → More → Redeem Code → enter the 12-digit code → Download. |
Your Beta key is separate from your release key, so you can play the Beta on one platform and pick another for the full game. For problems, Owlcat’s address is osirisreborn@owlcat.games, and there is a Beta channel on the Owlcat Discord.
“Duplicate code” on Steam
On launch day, players in a Steam thread got a “duplicate code” error when redeeming. Owlcat never replied there. Two workarounds were reported by players ⚠ player reports: refresh the Digital Download page, sometimes several times, until the code changes; or type the key in without the dashes.
What’s in the Beta
- The game’s second mission, Calm Waters, on Pinkwater 4 station right after the Eros escape, where you earn the title of captain. Background on the timeline page. The Ganymede mission from the Gamescom 2026 trailer is not in the Beta.
- Four presets and no character creator: Male Earther Officer, Female Belter Officer, Male Earther Hacker or Female Belter Hacker. See character creation.
- Your twin J fights beside you. Zafar helps from a distance and joins your crew later. See companions.
- 8 firearms, 9 gadget abilities, and one choice with consequences later in the game.
- One keypad: the armory code is 9009. Details on the armory code page.
Founder in-game rewards such as Miller’s armor are not in the Beta. Owlcat also warns the Beta build is not fully optimized; the Beta PC specs are on the system requirements page. On consoles Owlcat recommends Xbox Series X and PS5 over Series S. You are allowed to stream and record it.
How long it lasts
The mission takes 1–2 hours, depending on how much you talk and explore. The Beta itself doesn’t end on a set date: Owlcat’s community manager wrote on Xbox Wire that it “will run all the way up until release”.
What Owlcat changed from Beta feedback
On May 20, 2026, after 7,000+ survey responses in the first month, Owlcat announced changes. The biggest: the male protagonist and J voices are being recast because they “felt less expressive than we wanted”. It is also working on animations, the cover system, dialogue tone and the “ask” system. Those changes are aimed at the full game.
The Beta itself has had one patch, v_2433 on April 29, 2026. It added Y-axis inversion for mouse and gamepad, fixed several crashes and some animation issues, and added account login to the launcher. Nothing has been added to the Beta since. On Steam the Beta is a separate “Playtest” app (ID 4048390), so its news doesn’t show on the main store page.
Is it worth $79.99?
That’s the price of the Miller’s Pack, which includes the full game at release, so the real extra cost is $30 over the Standard pack. For that you get a 1–2 hour slice now, plus the Deluxe and Miller cosmetics and a digital artbook and soundtrack later. If you were going to buy the game at launch anyway and want to try the combat early, it’s reasonable. If you’re unsure about the game, the Beta is too short to justify $80 on its own.
