Who can you romance?

Not announced as of September 23, 2026. Every developer answer above stops short of naming anyone. The candidates are the six crew members besides your twin J: Regina Marek, Teo Lee, Polly Haart, Aleesha Young, Michael DeGarmo and Zafar Hejazi (see companions). Polly is described as a teenager, so don’t expect her on the list.

On February 14, 2026, Owlcat posted “Zafar and Regina from the Gemini crew prepared a little something for you. Would you be their Valentine?” That is the closest thing to a hint so far, but it is a marketing post, not a romance announcement.

Same-sex and LGBT romance

Also not announced. RPG Site asked Rastorguev directly about companions with distinct preferences and sexualities, and he declined to give specifics. The Escapist has speculated that some companions will have romance triggers tied to their sexuality, based on Owlcat’s earlier games. That is the writer’s guess, not a developer statement.

The one lead Owlcat itself offered: Rastorguev pointed to the studio’s “How do We Write Romance” dev blog. It was posted under Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and is about Owlcat’s earlier games, not this one.

Relationships beyond romance

The Steam page says “your relationships will flourish or deteriorate depending on the choices you make and how you choose to lead.” The official choices blog says faction standing can decide the fates of important characters, and companions can die permanently. Some wikis claim losing a romanced companion carries extra weight. We found no developer quote for that.

Romance is not in the Beta

The Beta is the game’s second mission on Pinkwater 4. Only J fights with you, and Zafar helps from a distance. Owlcat’s Beta content list doesn’t include romance, and CNET’s hands-on says “we’ll still have to wait to see how the story, characters, relationships and romances play out”.
